Due to changes in our itinerary, as a result of flooding in the past week, we found ourselves back in Slovenia. Not a bad thing because Slovenia has turned out to be a favourite country in our travels. About an hour outside of Ljubljana is a resort area called Lake Bled. Several friends had mentioned it so we had extra time for a side trip there.
The lake is at the base of the mountains, a turquoise green color, with an island castle in the middle. A trail provides a hike around the entire lake, providing views of the castle from all sides. As we made our way around the lake, another castle , up on the cliff, came into view. This is stuff that I used to see on jigsaw puzzle boxes as a kid – so beautiful.
It is certainly a worthwhile visit while exploring the Ljubljana area. Next it’s a night train to Florence, Italy. Feel free to leave a comment below.
