Since I last checked in it continued to rain, and rain, and then … rain some more. I am happy to report that yesterday, today and the week ahead forecast sunny skies and no rain! Wahoo!
I am getting settled in my new routine – bus routes, grocery stores, hikes, day trips and exploring neighbouring communities. I don’t need a vehicle here as there are buses and trains to take me pretty near anywhere I need to go. The bus stop is 5 minutes from my condo. Lots of retirees and couples here, so funny to watch them get on a bus after driving everywhere for the past 50 years – they just have that look of fear and bewilderment on their faces LOL.
My friends and I took a weekend trip to Portimão and a necessary stop was the ‘unofficial’ BEST PIRI PIRI CHICKEN PLACE IN TOWN. I would agree wholeheartedly! It is a quaint, unpretentious place near the mall called Churrasqueira [Barbeque] Das Cordosas. We waited about 45 minutes for a table. There is a menu, (if you ask) but a burly dude with a notepad and pencil just asked “spicy or non-spicy”. You get a plate of fries and salad to share for the table – simple right? I love it. I was there two years ago when my brother and sister-in-law visited. Need I say, it was delicious and can’t wait to go back!

My village of Luz, as I mentioned before, is linked into the coastal Fisherman’s Trail so I have been exploring various sections of the trail. One I especially like is the 1-hour walk to the neighbouring village of Burgau, the scenery is second-to-none. The trail hugs the coastline so you can’t get lost. Get too close to the edge , well, ……………….

About 3/4 of the way to Burgau is a rather steep climb but the view from the top is worthwhile with sightlines to Lagos to the east and Sagres to the west.
You walk into the cutest village with beach-side bars, surfers and hilly vistas.

On the east side of Luz, in Lagos, they recently completed a new boardwalk which I was anxious to check out. It begins at the train station and continues for about 1 hour eastward. It was a nice walk (between showers) with beach access every 200-300 meters from the main boardwalk. A British couple joined me at an abandoned beach kiosk until a shower passed, they were very friendly and we had a good chat! Also met some folks from Ontario with ties to Halifax.

Nothing too exciting here – loving my walks, books, crosswords and enjoying the sights and sounds of the Algarve. Cheers from Luz!
